Description

STEMCELL Technologies supplies this small-molecule mycotoxin as a crystalline solid with a chemical formula of C₃₄H₅₉NO₁₅ and a molecular weight of 721.8 g/mol, at a stated purity of ≥ 95% (CAS Number: 11635558350).

The compound is produced by Fusarium moniliforme and potently inhibits sphingosine N-acyltransferase (ceramide synthase) with an IC₅₀ of 0.1 µM, thereby disrupting sphingolipid synthesis, a key component of plasma membranes. It also inhibits protein serine/threonine phosphatases (PP1, PP2A, PP2B, PP2C, and PP5/T/K/H) with IC₅₀ values of 80–3000 µM, with PP5 being the most sensitive at an IC₅₀ of 80 µM. In combination with Aflatoxin B1, the compound increases reactive oxygen species levels and oxidative damage in rat spleen cells. Reported solubility is ≤ 25 mM in PBS (pH 7.2) and ≤ 13 mM in methanol.

Published research applications include reversibly blocking cell proliferation and DNA synthesis in Swiss 3T3 cells, blocking hexadecylphosphocholine (HePC)-induced apoptosis in human keratinocyte cell lines, disrupting dendrite growth in cerebellar Purkinje neurons, inhibiting axonal branching in cultured hippocampal neurons, and attenuating responses in mouse lymphoma cell lines. The product is stable at 5–20 °C as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt; for long-term storage it should be kept with a desiccant and protected from prolonged exposure to light. A California Proposition 65 warning applies, as the compound is known to the State of California to cause cancer. The product is for research use only and is not intended for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic uses.
