Description

Offered by STEMCELL Technologies, this small molecule acts as a BMP and AMPK pathway inhibitor, targeting the type I BMP receptors activin receptor-like kinase (ALK) 2, ALK3, and ALK6. It is also a potent inhibitor of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK; Ki = 109 nM) but does not significantly inhibit structurally related kinases such as ZAPK, SYK, PKCθ, PKA, or JAK3. The chemical name is 6-[4-[2-(1-piperidinyl)ethoxy]phenyl]-3-(4-pyridinyl)-pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine, and it is also referenced as Compound C (CAS 866405-64-3).

The crystalline solid has a chemical formula of C₂₄H₂₅N₅O and a molecular weight of 399.5 g/mol, with a reported purity of ≥ 98%. It is supplied as a product stable at -20°C; protect from prolonged exposure to light, and remains stable as supplied for 12 months from date of receipt. Solubility limits are DMSO ≤ 12 mM (with heat applied), absolute ethanol ≤ 350 µM, and dimethylformamide (DMF) ≤ 6.2 mM. The compound has low solubility in aqueous media; for cell culture use, the stock solution should be diluted into culture medium immediately before use and final ethanol concentration kept below 0.1% to avoid potential cell toxicity.

Published applications include promoting differentiation of neural progenitor cells from human pluripotent stem cells, cardiomyocytes from mouse and human pluripotent stem cells, and adipocytes while suppressing osteogenic differentiation of osteoblasts from human mesenchymal cells. The product is hazardous; refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and it is intended for research use only.
