Cyclic Pifithrin-Alpha (HBr), 5 mg

A cell-permeable, reversible p53 inhibitor supplied by STEMCELL Technologies as a hydrobromide salt. The compound is described as a more stable and less cytotoxic analog of the non-cyclic form of pifithrin-alpha and has been reported to activate the aryl hydrocarbon receptor. Alternative names include Cyclic PFT-α, Cyclic Pifithrin-α, PFT-β, and Pifithrin-β.

The chemical name is 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-2-(4-methylphenyl)-imidazo[2,1-b]benzothiazole, monohydrobromide (CAS 511296-88-1), with formula C₁₆H₁₆N₂S · HBr and molecular weight 349.3 g/mol. Reported purity is ≥ 95%. The product is provided as a crystalline solid, stable at -20°C as supplied, with storage away from direct light recommended. It is stable as supplied for 12 months from date of receipt.

Published applications include reducing UV-induced apoptosis of mouse embryonic stem cells, increasing the numbers of mouse hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells in vivo and in vitro while decreasing the radiation-induced death of these cells, and increasing the efficiency of reprogramming mouse embryonic fibroblasts to induced pluripotent stem cells.
