Chaetocin, 500 µg

From STEMCELL Technologies, this small molecule is a fungal mycotoxin originally produced by Chaetomium species and supplied as a crystalline solid of ≥ 95% purity. It functions as an epigenetic modifier by inhibiting the lysine-specific histone methyltransferase SU(VAR)3-9 (IC₅₀ = 0.8 µM), as well as G9a (IC₅₀ = 2.5 µM) and DIM5 (IC₅₀ = 3 µM). The compound also acts as a competitive substrate and inhibitor of thioredoxin reductase-1 (TrxR1) with a Km of 4.6 µM, more potently than glutathione reductase or thioredoxin, thereby inducing cellular oxidative stress.

In published cancer research, the compound has been shown to induce oxidative stress that selectively kills cancer cells and rapidly proliferating primary cells, and to attenuate the growth of glioma xenografts accompanied by increased reactive oxygen species production. The product has a molecular weight of 696.8 g/mol and is stable at -20°C as supplied, with protection from prolonged light exposure. It has low solubility in aqueous media but can be dissolved in DMSO at concentrations up to 20 mM, and remains stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt.
