From STEMCELL Technologies, this small molecule is described as a potent inhibitor of Src family kinases. It has been reported to inhibit phosphorylation of peptide substrates and autophosphorylation of purified Src (IC₅₀ = 5 - 20 nM and 40 nM, respectively), as well as Src family members such as LCK (IC₅₀ = 0.02 mM and 0.29 mM, respectively). The compound is also reported to inhibit epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), Cdc2, v-Abl, and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) (IC₅₀ = 0.15 mM, > 10 mM, 0.31 mM, and 0.2 mM, respectively; Missbach et al.).

The product is supplied as a crystalline solid with a reported purity of ≥ 98%, a molecular weight of 443.5 g/mol, and the chemical formula C₂₆H₂₉N₅O₂. It is soluble in DMSO at ≤ 20 mM and has low solubility in aqueous media. According to the manufacturer, the product is stable at -20°C as supplied, should be protected from prolonged light exposure, and remains stable for 12 months from the date of receipt when stored with a desiccant.

In published research, the compound has been used in combination with the GSK3 inhibitor CHIR99021 to maintain mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells (Shimizu et al.) and has been shown to preserve the epigenetic and genomic integrity as well as the developmental potential of ES cells (Choi et al.). The safety data sheet classifies the substance as not hazardous according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200).
