CFU Assay Course-UK-Fall

This hands-on CFU Assay training course from STEMCELL Technologies equips researchers with practical skills in colony-forming unit enumeration for hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell research. Delivered over two consecutive days at a UK training facility in the autumn, the program combines short lectures with bench-based practical sessions covering methylcellulose-based MethoCult medium preparation, cell plating, incubation, and colony scoring.

Participants work with both mouse and human hematopoietic cell samples, learning to identify and quantify myeloid (CFU-GM, CFU-M), erythroid (BFU-E, CFU-E), and multipotent (CFU-GEMM) colonies. The curriculum covers standard 35 mm culture dishes, IMDM-based protocols, and standardized scoring criteria aligned with published best practice. Attendees receive a course manual, certificate of completion, and access to reagents used during practical work.

The course suits new lab members, PhD students, core facility staff, and experienced researchers transitioning into hematopoietic colony assays. Prior cell culture experience is helpful but not required. Enrollment is limited to maintain a low instructor-to-participant ratio, ensuring individualized guidance during plating and scoring exercises. Materials arrive in single-use aliquots and kit format for each participant bench space.
