Annexin V, AZ, 100tests

A fluorescence-conjugated reagent from STEMCELL Technologies, this Annexin V preparation is used for the detection of apoptotic cells. Annexin V belongs to the annexin family of intracellular proteins that bind to membrane phospholipids in a calcium-dependent manner and exhibit a high affinity for phosphatidylserine (PS), which is normally present in the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane. During early-stage apoptosis, PS is translocated from the inner to the outer leaflet of the cell membrane, exposing it to the external cellular environment, where it can be detected by Annexin V; this translocation occurs prior to loss of membrane integrity. The reagent is intended to be used together with a viability dye such as 7-AAD, so that cells in early apoptosis stain positive for Annexin V and negative for the viability dye, while cells in late-stage apoptosis or necrosis stain positive for both.

The product has been verified for flow cytometry (FC) applications. According to the manufacturer's safety data sheet, the reagent is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture under the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), is supplied as a clear liquid, and requires no special protective equipment under normal use conditions. It should be stored at 2 - 8°C, not frozen, protected from prolonged exposure to light, and is stable until the expiry date printed on the label.
