CFTR(inh)-172, 5 mg

This small molecule from STEMCELL Technologies is a selective and reversible thiazolidinone inhibitor of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), reported to bind with a Ki of 300 nM. CFTR is a chloride anion channel that mediates fluid secretion in epithelial tissues including the airway and intestine, and defects in the CFTR gene can disrupt ion transport and lead to cystic fibrosis. When administered by intraperitoneal injection in mice, the compound blocks cholera toxin–induced intestinal fluid secretion, and it has also been reported to slow cyst growth in a mouse model of polycystic kidney disease.

Supplied as a crystalline solid, the compound has a purity of ≥ 98%, a molecular weight of 409.4 g/mol, and the molecular formula C18H10F3NO3S2 (CAS 307510-92-5). It is soluble in DMSO at concentrations of ≤ 12 mM and exhibits low solubility in aqueous media. The product is stable at -20 °C as supplied, should be protected from prolonged light exposure, and stored with a desiccant for long-term storage; it is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. Stock solutions in DMSO should be prepared fresh before use and stored at -20 °C, with working aliquots used to limit repeated freeze–thaw cycles. When added to cell culture, the stock solution should be diluted into medium immediately before use, with final DMSO concentration kept below 0.1% to avoid potential cell toxicity.
