Description

STEMCELL Technologies supplies BSI-201, also known as iniparib, as a small molecule research reagent with a stated purity of ≥ 98%. The compound is a crystalline solid identified chemically as 4-iodo-3-nitrobenzamide (CAS 160003-66-7), with the molecular formula C₇H₅IN₂O₃ and a molecular weight of 292.0 g/mol. An alternative designation listed is IND 71677.

BSI-201 is described as a cysteine-containing protein modifier. According to published work, it can interact with the zinc finger domain of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) in vitro, but fails to inhibit the enzyme. Its nitroso metabolite is highly reactive and forms non-specific covalent interactions with many cysteine-containing proteins. The compound has demonstrated anti-proliferative effects in triple-negative breast cancer cells, and early studies suggested potential utility in treating early-stage triple-negative and BRCA1/2 mutation-associated breast cancer; however, later studies found its efficacy to be insignificant. Published applications include its use, in combination with other small molecules, to enable derivation of extended pluripotent stem (EPS) cells from both humans and mice, and in cancer research to inhibit the growth of a subset of triple-negative breast cancer cells in combination with cisplatin.

As supplied, the product is stable at -20°C and should be protected from prolonged exposure to light. For long-term storage, a desiccant is recommended. The product is stated to remain stable for 12 months from the date of receipt. Reported solubility limits are ≤ 100 mM in DMSO and ≤ 30 mM in absolute ethanol, and the compound has low solubility in aqueous media. The product is supplied for research use only.
