Description

STEMCELL Technologies supplies this small molecule as a crystalline solid with a molecular formula of C₂₉H₂₄O₂ and a molecular weight of 404.5 g/mol. The chemical name is 4-[(E)-2-[5,5-dimethyl-8-(2-phenylethynyl)-6H-naphthalen-2-yl]ethenyl]benzoic acid, and the stated purity is ≥ 98%. The compound is an inverse agonist of the pan-retinoic acid receptors (RARs), which are ligand-dependent transcription factors that regulate gene networks controlling cell growth, differentiation, survival, and death. BMS 493 increases nuclear receptor co-repressor (NCoR) interaction with RARs.

As supplied, the product is stable at -20°C for 12 months from the date of receipt when protected from prolonged exposure to light, and a desiccant should be used for long-term storage. It is soluble in DMSO at concentrations ≤ 60 mM, and a 10 mM stock solution in DMSO can be prepared by resuspending 1 mg in 247 μL of DMSO. Stock solutions should be prepared fresh before use, and the final DMSO concentration in culture should be kept below 0.1% to avoid potential cell toxicity.

Published research applications include effects on murine bronchial tubule formation (Chazaud et al., 2003), inhibition of immature dendritic cell activation (Geissmann et al., 2003), and inhibition of leukemic blast differentiation (Kamashev et al., 2004). The product is for research use only and is not intended for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
