Built around a photomultiplier tube-based optical engine, this real-time PCR thermal cycler from QIAGEN resolves five fluorescent channels - blue, green, orange, red, and NIR 1 - simultaneously per reaction. Designated the QIAquant 96 5plex (230V) System FUL-2, it supports multiplexed nucleic acid quantification with detection sensitivity reaching 1 nmol/L using the FAM reporter and a 30 µL sample volume on a silver sample block with gold coating.

The 96-position plate block accepts reaction volumes from 5 to 100 µL, with QIAGEN recommending 10 to 80 µL for routine cycling. Heating and cooling rates reach approximately 8°C/s, and a programmable thermal gradient spanning 40°C (settable in 0.1°C steps) supports parallel annealing optimization across twelve columns. Temperature uniformity holds to ±0.15°C at 55°C, ±0.25°C at 72°C, and ±0.50°C at 95°C fifteen seconds after clock start, while the heated lid ranges from 30°C to 110°C to prevent condensation in sealed plate formats.

Integrated QIAquant software manages experiment design, real-time monitoring, melt-curve analysis, allelic discrimination, and absolute quantification against external standards. Factory-loaded per-channel calibration data compensates for crosstalk between commonly used reporter dyes, and run files can be exported via USB or Ethernet to a LIMS or shared network folder. The 230V configuration matches laboratory power across Europe, the Middle East, and much of Asia, drawing up to 850W with a 45 dB noise floor, and pairs with a responsive touchscreen plus password-protected user accounts. The instrument weighs 30 kg and occupies a 275 × 275 × 590 mm footprint, fitting on a benchtop beside extraction hoods or sample-prep workstations.

The factory-calibrated optical engine eliminates a separate alignment step at installation, lowering validation overhead in regulated diagnostic environments.
