Description

This real-time PCR thermal cycler from QIAGEN combines a 96-well gold-coated silver thermal block with a 2-target multiplex detection system designed for fast, sensitive quantitative PCR, with cycling times down to less than 30 minutes for 40 cycles. The instrument accepts sample volumes of 5–100 µl (10–80 µl recommended) and operates over a temperature range of 4–99°C with control accuracy of ±0.1°C. Heating rates reach up to 8°C/s (average 7°C/s) and cooling rates up to 6°C/s (average 5.5°C/s), with a 40°C gradient function offering 0.1°C steps for assay optimization.

Temperature uniformity across the block is ±0.15°C at 55°C, ±0.25°C at 72°C, and ±0.50°C at 95°C, and the motorized heated lid is adjustable from 30°C to 110°C. A fiber-optic shuttle system scans above each sample and captures fluorescence through a photomultiplier tube, achieving a sensitivity of 1 nmol/l FAM at 30 µl sample volume across a dynamic range of 10 log stages. The two channels cover blue (455±15 nm excitation / 515±10 nm detection) and green (520±10 nm / 560±15 nm) wavelengths for dyes such as FAM, SYBR Green, EvaGreen, JOE, HEX, and VIC, with a full-plate read time of approximately 6 seconds.

Operation is via touchscreen and/or PC using Q-Rex software, which supports absolute quantification, relative quantification, ΔΔCt analysis, allelic discrimination, efficiency calculation, DNA melting curves, and POS/NEG end-point analysis, with export to Excel, CSV, LIMS, GenEx, and qBase. The open platform is compatible with standard SBS-format plates, strips, and tubes. The unit measures 59 x 27.5 x 27.5 cm (70 x 27.5 x 50 cm opened), weighs 30 kg, and runs on 115 V power at up to 850 W, producing a noise level of 45 dB.
