1 kb DNA Ladder Ready to Load

Manufactured by Solis BioDyne, this ready-to-load molecular weight marker is designed for DNA fragment size determination on agarose gel electrophoresis. The formulation is intended to run accurately and to produce crisp band patterns, and it includes two tracking dyes—bromophenol blue and xylene cyanol(e)—that act as visual aids to monitor migration progress during electrophoresis.

The marker contains 13 discrete DNA fragments spanning 300 bp to 10,000 bp and is provided at 0.1 µg/µl. For best results, Solis BioDyne advises dispensing 5–10 µl per well, noting that the choice of voltage, time, buffer and agarose percentage is adjustable. Example run conditions from the manufacturer include 150 V for a minimum of 45 minutes on a 1% agarose gel in 1× TBE, or 130–150 V for a minimum of 2 hours on a 2% agarose gel in 1× TBE. Reference band quantities per 10 µl are provided, with 80 ng at 10,000, 8,000, 6,000, 5,000 and 4,000 bp, 120 ng at 3,000 bp, 123 ng at 2,500 bp, 81 ng at 2,000 bp, 73 ng at 1,500 bp, 41 ng at 1,000 bp, 57 ng at 700 bp, 61 ng at 500 bp and 44 ng at 300 bp.

The storage solution is composed of 10 mM EDTA, 10% glycerol, 0.015% bromophenol blue, 0.015% xylene cyanole and 0.17% SDS. Routine storage is recommended at -18°C to -28°C, and Solis BioDyne states that shipping and temporary storage for up to 1 month at room temperature has no detrimental effects on product quality.
