Supplied by STEMCELL Technologies as a 25 mg vial, this preparation contains the active cis-isomer (Z)-4-hydroxytamoxifen, the principal high-affinity metabolite of the selective estrogen receptor modulator tamoxifen. Researchers favor the (Z)-enantiomer over the parent drug for cell-based and animal studies because it binds the estrogen receptor with substantially greater potency, producing estrogen signaling effects at considerably lower working concentrations.
Routine applications include investigation of hormone-responsive breast cancer cell lines, characterization of estrogen receptor agonists and antagonists, and inducible gene knockout in mammalian systems. In CreERT2/loxP conditional mouse models, intraperitoneal administration activates nuclear-localized Cre recombinase and enables temporally controlled recombination in defined tissues. Typical in vivo doses fall in the 1 to 2 mg per mouse range, while in vitro cell culture work commonly uses 100 nM to 10 µM. Stock solutions are generally prepared in DMSO at 10 to 100 mM and stored at -20 °C, protected from light.
For research use only. Not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic applications in humans.
