Supplied by STEMCELL Technologies as a 10 mg single-use vial, (Z)-4-Hydroxytamoxifen is the 4-hydroxylated active metabolite of tamoxifen and a potent selective estrogen receptor modulator used across biomedical research. It is most commonly deployed to activate inducible CreERT2 recombinase fusions, enabling tightly controlled gene knockout, conditional expression, and lineage tracing studies in cultured mammalian cells, pluripotent stem cells, organoids, and in vivo mouse models.

The powder is readily soluble in ethanol and DMSO. Stock solutions are typically prepared at 1 to 10 mM, aliquoted, and stored at -20 degrees C, protected from light to prevent (E)/(Z) isomerization that would reduce biological activity. Working concentrations for cell culture applications generally range from 100 nM to 1 uM, with shorter induction windows requiring higher doses. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided, and short-term working dilutions can be kept refrigerated for limited experiments.

Beyond inducible recombination, this reagent is widely used to interrogate estrogen receptor signaling in breast cancer research, hormone-driven differentiation pathways, and chromatin remodeling studies. It is intended for research use only and is not approved for diagnostic or therapeutic applications. Each lot is quality-controlled to deliver reproducible performance in cell culture, immunohistochemistry, and molecular biology workflows.
