Description

Offered by STEMCELL Technologies, this thiophene-derivative small molecule potently inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine, with IC50 values of 28 nM and 46 nM, respectively (Kasamo et al.; Soni et al.; Wong et al.). It suppresses pyramidal neuronal firing in the hippocampus (Kasamo et al.) and is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A2 and 2D6 (Carter & McCormack). The compound has been investigated as a treatment for depressive and motor symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease (Takahashi et al.).

It is also known by the alternative name LY248686. Its chemical formula is C18H19NOS • HCl (CAS Number: 136434-34-9), and the full chemical name is N-methyl-γS-(1-naphthalenyloxy)-2-thiophenepropanamine, monohydrochloride, with a molecular weight of 333.9 g/mol. The material is supplied as a crystalline solid with a purity of ≥ 98%.

The product is stable at room temperature (15 - 25°C) as supplied and should be protected from prolonged exposure to light. For long-term storage, store with a desiccant; it remains stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. Reported solubility is ≤ 8.9 mM in water and ≤ 85 mM in DMSO. When used as a cell culture supplement, the stock solution should be diluted into culture medium immediately before use, and the final DMSO concentration should be kept below 0.1% due to potential cell toxicity. A published study has shown that (S)-Duloxetine and 5-hydroxytryptophan suppress food intake in food-deprived rats (Wong et al.). This product is for research use only and is not intended for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic uses.
