Designed as an isotype-matched control antibody, this biotinylated reagent from STEMCELL Technologies is a rat monoclonal IgM, kappa antibody (Clone RTK2118). It is intended to estimate the degree of non-specific binding by an antigen-specific antibody, with the isotype control ideally sharing the same heavy and light chain subclass (IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, or IgM; kappa or lambda) as the specific antibody being employed. When a conjugated antibody is used, an isotype control conjugated to the same molecule should be chosen. Use of an appropriate isotype control helps confirm specificity of the antigen-specific antibody and indicates non-specific binding that may result from binding to Fc receptors or other cell components.

The antibody recognises keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) and has unknown binding specificity, having been screened on activated, resting, live, and fixed tissues from mouse, rat, human, and non-human primates. The immunogen was Trinitrophenol + KLH. Verified applications include flow cytometry and immunofluorescence microscopy (surface and intracellular staining); reported applications include immunoprecipitation (IP) and Western blotting (WB).

The reagent is supplied at 0.5 mg/mL in a phosphate-buffered solution, pH 7.2, containing 0.09% sodium azide. The immunoglobulin was conjugated with biotin under optimal conditions and is at >85% purity, with the solution free of unconjugated biotin. Product is stable at 2 - 8°C when stored undiluted; do not freeze. For use, the suggested concentration is comparable to that of the specific antibody of interest.
