It is designed for use as an isotype-matched control to estimate the degree of non-specific binding by an antigen-specific antibody, helping to confirm antibody specificity and indicating non-specific binding that may result from binding to Fc receptors or other cell components.

Verified applications include flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, immunoprecipitation, Western blot, and functional assays.
