From STEMCELL Technologies, this FITC-conjugated Rat IgG2a, kappa Isotype Control Antibody, Clone RTK2758 is intended for use as an isotype-matched control antibody in laboratory applications. The RTK2758 clone (IgG2a, kappa) is suitable for estimating the degree of non-specific binding by an antigen-specific antibody of the same subclass.

Ideally, the isotype control should share the same subclass of heavy chain (IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, or IgM) and light chain (kappa or lambda) as the specific antibody being employed, and should be conjugated to the same molecule (such as a fluorochrome) when a conjugated antibody is used. Use of an appropriate isotype control helps confirm the specificity of the antigen-specific antibody and indicates non-specific binding that may result from binding to Fc receptors or other cell components. The reagent has been referenced for use as an isotype control in flow cytometry analyses of mouse splenocytes.
