An isotype-matched control reagent from STEMCELL Technologies, this rat IgG1, kappa monoclonal antibody (clone RTK2071) is supplied in an unconjugated format and is designed to estimate the degree of non-specific binding produced by an antigen-specific antibody. According to the manufacturer, an appropriate isotype control should share the same heavy-chain subclass and light chain as the specific antibody being used, and a conjugated control should be matched to the same fluorochrome or label. Use of this control helps confirm the specificity of an antigen-specific antibody and indicates any non-specific binding resulting from binding to Fc receptors or other cell components.

The clone has been verified for use as an isotype control in flow cytometry and in immunofluorescence microscopy, including both surface and intracellular staining, as demonstrated on C57BL/6 mouse splenocytes in the manufacturer's flow cytometry data figures. The reagent is available in a range of formats, including unconjugated preparations as well as conjugates to Alexa Fluor® 488, APC, biotin, FITC, and PE, and is intended to support a broad range of research applications such as flow cytometry, functional assays, immunocytochemistry, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation, and Western blotting within the area of immunology research.
