RNeasy Protect Bacteria Mini Kit (50)

This QIAGEN kit combines RNAprotect Bacteria Reagent with the RNeasy Mini Kit for in vivo stabilization of total RNA in bacteria and subsequent RNA purification. The reagent uses a novel patent-pending technology to provide immediate stabilization of the in vivo gene expression profile in bacteria, preventing both degradation of RNA transcripts and induction of genes. RNA is stabilized before bacterial cells are lysed, allowing sufficient time for efficient cell disruption without distorting the gene expression profile.

The system is suitable for both Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium avium) and Gram-negative bacteria (e.g., Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium), and is compatible with both minimal and complex media. Two volumes of RNAprotect Bacteria Reagent are added directly to one volume of bacterial culture to provide immediate RNA stabilization.

The resulting high-quality RNA reflects the true in vivo gene expression profile of bacteria and is suitable for a wide range of downstream applications, including northern, dot and slot blotting; array analyses; quantitative real-time RT-PCR; NASBA; and bDNA analyses. The kit supports several protocols for preparing bacterial lysates involving enzymatic lysis (with lysozyme or lysostaphin), proteinase K digestion, and mechanical disruption using the TissueLyser II with glass beads. RNAprotect Bacteria Reagent is stored at room temperature (15–25°C) and is stable for at least 12 months under these conditions. The product is intended for research use only, and each lot of RNAprotect Bacteria Reagent is tested against predetermined specifications in accordance with QIAGEN's ISO-certified Quality Management System.
