RNeasy PowerPlant Kit (50)

For plant molecular biology workflows requiring isolation of total RNA from challenging sample types, this kit from QIAGEN delivers a bead-beating-based workflow that replaces potentially damaging procedures such as CTAB and TRIZOL extraction. The technology supports purification from tough plant materials — including strawberry leaf, cotton leaf, cotton seeds, and pine needles — and the included patented Inhibitor Removal Technology removes PCR inhibitors during isolation, yielding RNA ready for downstream applications such as RT-qPCR and RNA-seq. An optional Phenolic Separation Solution (PSS) is provided for samples high in polyphenolic compounds, such as pine and grape leaf, where it prevents loss of RNA by breaking the bond between RNA and phenolics before the inhibitor-removal step. miRNA can also be isolated using the kit.

Key specifications include: sample types of plants and seeds; sample size of up to 50 mg of plant material; 2.8 mm ceramic beads for homogenization; throughput of 1–24 samples; a silica spin filter tube format; a per-preparation time of 30 minutes; and storage at room temperature (15–30°C). The kit is compatible with a vortex for soft leaf tissue or a high-velocity bead beater such as the PowerLyzer 24 Homogenizer for stems, roots, seeds, or difficult leaf tissue. This product was formerly sold by MO BIO as the PowerPlant RNA Kit.

Reagents supplied include a Phenolic Separation Solution, pre-filled ceramic bead tubes, spin filters, and collection tubes. All components are stored at room temperature (15–30°C). Gloves should be worn when handling kit reagents, and Solutions PR4 and PR5 are flammable and should be kept away from open flames and sparks.
