RNeasy PowerBiofilm Kit (50)

A QIAGEN RNA extraction kit optimized for biofilm samples combines mechanical and chemical lysis with Inhibitor Removal Technology to isolate RNA free from common biofilm contaminants, including humic acid, metals, salts, and pesticides. The resulting RNA is suitable for downstream applications.

Key specifications include a silica spin filter tube format and bead-beating processing with a mix of 0.1 mm glass, 0.5 mm glass, and 2.4 mm ceramic beads. The kit is compatible with biofilm samples ranging from cultured single-cell layers to microbial mats, handles 1–24 samples per run, accepts a sample size of 0.05–0.20 g, and provides a binding capacity of up to 40 µg per prep. A typical run takes 42 minutes, with an additional 15-minute DNase step.

Lyophilized DNase I is stored at 4 °C, while all other kit reagents and components are stored at room temperature (15–30 °C). The product was formerly sold by MO BIO under the PowerBiofilm RNA Isolation Kit name.
