Description
Providing immediate stabilization of RNA in fresh tissue samples, QIAGEN RNAprotect Tissue Tubes enable convenient and safe handling at room temperature. The 5 ml tubes are intended for single use and support easy collection and storage of tissues in reclosable vessels.
Only fresh, unfrozen tissues should be stabilized, as previously frozen samples thaw too slowly for the reagent to diffuse in quickly enough to prevent RNA degradation. Tissue should be cut into slices less than 0.5 cm thick and completely submerged in the reagent, with at least 10 volumes of reagent required (approximately 10 μl per 1 mg of tissue). Stabilized tissues can be stored submerged for up to 4 weeks at 2–8°C, up to 7 days at 15–25°C, or up to 1 day at 37°C. For archival storage, samples can be held at −30 to −15°C or −90 to −65°C after overnight incubation at 2–8°C, and may be freeze-thawed up to 20 times without affecting RNA quality or yield.
Beyond animal tissues, the reagent supports stabilization of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and allows direct collection from sorted or cultured cells without removing the medium. Unopened tubes can be stored at room temperature (15–25°C) for at least 12 months.
