Resveratrol, 500 mg

STEMCELL Technologies supplies this resveratrol preparation as a small molecule research reagent. Resveratrol is a potent phenolic antioxidant found in grapes and red wine that also has antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory activity, and acts as a selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1). The compound inhibits COX and peroxidase activities of COX-1 with ED₅₀ values of 15 and 3.7 µM, respectively, with essentially no inhibition of the COX activity of COX-2.

Resveratrol is supplied as a crystalline solid with a stated purity of ≥ 98% (CAS 501-36-0; C₁₄H₁₂O₃; molecular weight 228.2 g/mol). It is stable at -20°C as supplied and should be protected from prolonged exposure to light. Reported solubility limits are DMSO ≤ 280 mM, absolute ethanol ≤ 280 mM, and PBS (pH 7.2) ≤ 430 µM. Stock solutions should be aliquoted into working volumes to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and final DMSO concentration in cell culture should be kept below 0.1% to avoid potential cell toxicity.
