Description

Manufactured by STEMCELL Technologies, this research-use laboratory reagent is a recombinant form of the B18R protein encoded by the B18R open reading frame in the Western Reserve (WR) strain of vaccinia virus. It acts as a type I interferon (IFN)-binding protein that inhibits the IFN antiviral response, exhibits neutralizing activity toward type I interferon family members, and protects cells from the antiviral effects of interferon. The protein has also been reported to aid in cellular reprogramming using RNA-mediated gene delivery. It is not a hazardous substance or mixture according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and is supplied as a clear liquid.

Specifications include a predicted molecular mass of 38.4 kDa, a specific activity of ≥ 1.3 x 10^6 units/mg as determined by a neutralization assay of recombinant mouse IFN-alpha 2 protein, a purity of ≥ 98%, and an endotoxin level of ≤ 0.01 ng/μg protein measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. The product is a sterile-filtered liquid formulation containing phosphate and sodium chloride at pH 7.5, and is expressed in insect cells. It is described as a type I IFN inhibitor and a vaccinia virus-encoded neutralizing type I interferon receptor.

For storage, the product should be kept at -80°C and is stable until the expiry date on the label. It should be thawed at room temperature (15 - 25°C); once thawed, it should be used immediately or aliquoted and stored at -80°C, and aliquots should not be re-frozen.
