QIAwave DNA Blood & Tissue (50)

This QIAGEN kit is an eco-friendlier version of the standard DNeasy Blood & Tissue Kit, designed to isolate total DNA — including genomic, mitochondrial and pathogen DNA — from animal blood and tissue samples. It uses up to 62% less plastic and up to 58% less cardboard than the standard kit, with waste tubes made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic that can be reused throughout the procedure, and QIAwave buffers supplied as concentrates to reduce plastic use by up to 90% per bottle. The kit carries a 21.5% lower Environmental Impact Factor (EIF) in the US than the equivalent standard kit.

Purification relies on silica-based DNeasy Mini Spin Columns in a rapid manual workflow, with most samples lysed directly using proteinase K — no mechanical disruption, organic extraction, or alcohol precipitation is required. DNA binds the silica membrane in the presence of chaotropic salt, allowing specific adsorption of DNA while washing away contaminants and enzyme inhibitors. The standard protocol takes about 20 minutes per prep, with an elution volume of 100–200 µL. The kit can be stored at room temperature (15–25°C) for up to 1 year after delivery and can also be automated on the QIAcube Connect.

It accepts samples such as 100 µL mammalian blood, 5 µL bird blood, up to 5 × 10⁶ cultured cells, ≤25 mg of most tissues (≤10 mg spleen), and small rodent tail snippets, delivering yields of 3–6 µg from 100 µL mammalian blood, 10–30 µg from 25 mg liver, 15–30 µg from 25 mg brain or kidney, and 5–30 µg from 10 mg spleen. Eluted DNA is ready for downstream applications including PCR, real-time PCR, genotyping and NGS.
