QIAGEN's QIAseq FastSelect –rRNA Worm Kit delivers rapid rRNA removal for RNA-seq library preparation from Caenorhabditis elegans (worm) samples. The kit uses a novel method to remove highly abundant RNA of low scientific value from RNA-seq libraries, targeting all annotated rRNAs in RefSeq and Ensembl for C. elegans. Depending on rRNA sequence homology, the technology also works on additional worm species.

Designed for efficient removal of cytoplasmic and mitochondrial worm ribosomal RNA from total RNA during NGS library preparation, the kit integrates seamlessly into existing stranded RNA library preparation workflows as a single 14-minute inline step, completing the entire removal step from 75°C down to 25°C. No enrichment step on total RNA samples is required. The kit ensures consistently high performance with RNA amounts ranging from as little as 1 ng up to 1 μg, and is compatible with QIAGEN, Illumina, KAPA, and NEB RNA library kits.

Compared with alternative RNA depletion kits that require pre-treatment protocols involving more than 25 steps and 2 hours, this approach dramatically streamlines the workflow. The procedure works with or without RNA fragmentation, providing flexibility for both high-quality and fragmented (including FFPE) RNA samples, and delivers reliable rRNA removal and high reproducibility in downstream applications.
