QIAGEN's QIAamp DSP DNA Mini Kit delivers silica-membrane-based nucleic acid purification from a wide range of sample types, including tissues, swabs, CSF, blood, body fluids, lymphocytes, bone marrow, and washed cells from urine. The kit is intended for purification of genomic, mitochondrial, bacterial, parasite, or viral DNA and is for in vitro diagnostic use.

The spin-column procedure does not require mechanical homogenization or phenol-chloroform extraction, with a total hands-on preparation time of around 20 minutes. DNA binds specifically to the QIAamp silica-gel membrane while contaminants pass through, yielding purified DNA ready for downstream applications. The workflow follows four simple steps: lyse, bind, wash twice, and elute, and the included spin columns can be processed using a centrifuge or a vacuum manifold. For higher throughput, the procedure can be fully automated on the QIAcube instrument.

For low amounts of RNA or DNA, fluorometric measurements or quantitative RT-PCR and PCR provide more sensitive and accurate quantification than spectrophotometric methods.
