QIAamp DNA Blood Mini Kit (50)

A silica-membrane-based DNA purification kit from QIAGEN designed to efficiently purify genomic, mitochondrial or viral DNA from whole blood, plasma, serum and other body fluids. The Mini Kit uses a spin column format with manual processing by centrifugation or vacuum, accepting sample volumes of 1–200 µl and delivering an elution volume of 50–200 µl. Each preparation takes 20–40 minutes and yields 4–12 µg of DNA, with fragments recovered in sizes from 200 bp to 50 kb depending on sample age and storage.

DNA binds specifically to the QIAamp silica-gel membrane while contaminants pass through; PCR inhibitors such as divalent cations and proteins are removed in two efficient wash steps, eliminating the need for phenol–chloroform extraction. Purified DNA is suitable for PCR, long-range PCR and Southern blotting applications, and the kit has been used to recover fragments as small as 168 base pairs. Fresh or frozen whole blood treated with common anticoagulants such as citrate, EDTA and heparin may be processed. Purified DNA is stable for at least 10 years when stored at 2–8ºC or –20ºC.
