Description

STEMCELL Technologies offers this small-molecule research compound, a dihydropyranocoumarin derivative reported to potently inhibit butyrylcholinesterase (IC50 = 12.96 μM; Orhan et al.). Butyrylcholinesterase is involved in the regulation of acetylcholine in the brain, and its activity level is higher in patients with Alzheimer's disease; butyrylcholinesterase inhibitors have been implicated as lead compounds for developing treatments for Alzheimer's disease.

The compound is supplied as a crystalline solid with a reported purity of ≥ 98%. Synonyms include Pterixin, (+)-Pteryxin, and Pteryxine, with CAS Number 13161-75-6, chemical formula C21H22O7, and molecular weight 386.4 g/mol. Reported stock-solution solubility is ≤ 75 mM in DMSO and ≤ 75 mM in absolute ethanol, and additional solvent solubility data lists DMF, DMSO, and ethanol at 30 mg/mL each.

A published application notes that the compound blocks the production of LPS-induced nitric oxide in macrophages (IC50 = 20 μM; Matsuda et al.). The product is stable as supplied at -20°C for 12 months from date of receipt when protected from prolonged exposure to light. It is classified as causing skin irritation, serious eye irritation, and respiratory irritation, is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, and has carbon oxides listed as hazardous decomposition products.
