Prostaglandin E2, 1 mg

A prostanoid pathway activator from STEMCELL Technologies, this small molecule is one of the major products of the arachidonic acid/cyclooxygenase pathway and the most biologically active and well-studied prostaglandin. It binds with very high affinity to prostaglandin receptors EP1, EP2, EP3, and EP4 (Ki = 9.1, 4.9, 0.33, 0.79 nM respectively) and inhibits 15-hydroxy PGDH.

Supplied as a crystalline solid with a purity of ≥ 98%, the compound has the chemical name 9-oxo-11α,15S-dihydroxy-prosta-5Z,13E-dien-1-oic acid, the alternative names Dinoprostone and PGE2, CAS Number 363-24-6, molecular formula C₂₀H₃₂O₅, and molecular weight 352.5 g/mol. The product is stable at -20°C as supplied, should be protected from prolonged exposure to light, and remains stable as supplied for 12 months from date of receipt. Reported solubility limits are PBS (pH 7.2) ≤ 14 mM, DMSO ≤ 280 mM, and absolute ethanol ≤ 280 mM. Final DMSO or absolute ethanol concentration above 0.1% should be avoided due to potential cell toxicity. Stock solutions should be prepared fresh before use.

Published research applications include a role in the maintenance and self-renewal of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), and the promotion of differentiation of hematopoietic progenitor cells, myeloid-derived suppressor cells, and Th17 cells from naïve T cells.
