Soil-derived microbial DNA preparation kit from QIAGEN built around a single-use bead-beating tube workflow. Each tube holds a pre-aliquoted mixture of garnet and 0.7 mm silica beads used to mechanically lyse tough microbial cells, including Gram-positive bacteria, fungal spores, and archaeal organisms embedded in clay or humic matrices. Up to 250 mg of soil, sediment, compost, or feces can be processed per prep, with downstream eluates applied directly to PCR amplification, 16S rRNA sequencing, qPCR, and shotgun metagenomic library construction without further cleanup.

A defining feature of the chemistry is the Inhibitor Removal Technology (IRT) step, which strips humic acids, polyphenolics, polysaccharides, and other PCR-inhibiting carryovers that frequently co-purify with environmental DNA. Reagents ship in a ready-to-use kit format with Proteinase K, lysis buffers, wash buffers, and spin filters included; the workflow moves through mechanical lysis, protein digestion, inhibitor binding, silica-membrane capture, wash steps, and final elution in 50 to 100 µL of buffer.

Components remain stable at room temperature; reconstituted Proteinase K should be refrigerated and used within the kit shelf life. The kit is intended for research use only, supporting microbiome surveys, environmental monitoring, agricultural soil studies, and bioburden analysis where standard column preps routinely fail. Single-use bead tubes eliminate cross-contamination between samples.
