Ms Recom VEGF-164, 1000 µg

From STEMCELL Technologies, this recombinant mouse vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-164) is a heparin-binding homodimeric glycoprotein involved in vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. It binds to FLT1 (VEGFR-1) and KDR (VEGFR-2), activating the Raf/MEK/ERK and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways. The factor also plays an important role in neurogenesis, with reported neurotrophic effects on neurons of the central nervous system and promotion of growth and survival of dopaminergic neurons and astrocytes. In addition, it supports the growth and survival of vascular endothelial cells, monocyte chemotaxis, and colony formation by granulocyte-macrophage progenitor cells.

The preparation is supplied lyophilized after dialysis against HEPES and sodium chloride at pH 7, and is expressed in P. pastoris with a predicted molecular mass of 19.4 kDa. Purity is reported as ≥ 97%. Specific activity is ≥ 1.7 x 10^5 units/mg, with an EC50 ≤ 6 ng/mL as determined by a cell proliferation assay using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs); a representative data set from the manufacturer reports an EC50 of 2.14 ng/mL. Endotoxin level is ≤ 1 EU/μg protein as measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. For reconstitution, the vial should be centrifuged before opening and the contents dissolved in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL by pipetting the solution down the sides of the vial without vortexing. The product should be stored at -80°C, where it remains stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt.
