Description

Mouse Recombinant VEGF-164 from STEMCELL Technologies is a lyophilized laboratory reagent supplied as a solid powder. The protein is of mouse origin and is expressed in P. pastoris, formulated after dialysis against HEPES and sodium chloride at pH 7.

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a heparin-binding homodimeric glycoprotein that participates in vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. VEGF binds to FLT1 (VEGFR-1) and KDR (VEGFR-2) and activates the Raf/MEK/ERK and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways. The factor contributes to neurogenesis in vitro and in vivo, with neurotrophic effects on central nervous system neurons, and supports the growth and survival of dopaminergic neurons, astrocytes, and vascular endothelial cells, as well as monocyte chemotaxis and colony formation by granulocyte-macrophage progenitor cells. Alternative names for the protein include MGC70609, MVCD1, Vascular endothelial growth factor 2, Vascular endothelial growth factor A, Vascular permeability factor, Vasculotropin, VEGFA, and VPF (UniProt accession Q00731-1).

The product has a predicted molecular mass of 19.4 kDa and a reported purity of ≥ 97%. Specific activity is ≥ 1.7 x 10^5 units/mg with an EC50 of ≤ 6 ng/mL in a HUVEC proliferation assay; a representative EC50 of 2.14 ng/mL is shown in the manufacturer's data figure. Endotoxin level is ≤ 1 EU/μg protein as measured by kinetic LAL analysis. The lyophilized material should be stored at -80°C and is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. For use, the vial should be centrifuged before opening and reconstituted in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL without vortexing; if the reconstituted product will not be used immediately, dilution to a final bovine serum albumin (BSA) concentration of 0.1% is recommended. The product is not classified as hazardous under the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard or the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and is intended for research use only.
