Ms Recom Shh, 10 µg

A secreted signaling protein offered by STEMCELL Technologies, recombinant mouse Sonic hedgehog (Shh; alternative names HHG-1, HLP3, HPE3, MCOPCB5, SMMCI, TPT, TPTPS) is produced in E. coli and supplied as a lyophilized powder. The protein is a fully biologically active member of the Hedgehog family and has a prominent role in patterning during early mammalian development. It is detected during early embryogenesis in a variety of tissues and, in the central nervous system, acts on cells to specify neural cell fates, regulates proliferation and survival of oligodendrocyte precursors and neural crest cells, and stimulates proliferation, differentiation, and axon growth. Shh also regulates T cell differentiation and activation.

The recombinant protein carries accession number Q62226 and has a predicted molecular mass of 19.8 kDa. Purity is ≥ 95%. Specific activity is ≥ 1 x 10^3 units/mg, determined by induction of alkaline phosphatase production in C3H/10T1/2 cells, with an EC50 ≤ 1 μg/mL; in a representative assay the EC50 was 0.8 μg/mL. Endotoxin level is ≤ 0.2 EU/μg protein by kinetic LAL analysis. Cross-reactivity is not determined.

The product is provided as a lyophilized preparation after dialysis against phosphate-buffered saline and is intended for laboratory/research use only. Centrifuge the vial before opening and resuspend in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL by pipetting down the sides of the vial; do not vortex. Store the lyophilized material at -80°C; it is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. After reconstitution, store at 2–8°C for up to 2 weeks, or at -20°C to -80°C for up to 3 months, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
