Mouse Recombinant Noggin from STEMCELL Technologies supports the maintenance of undifferentiated human embryonic stem cells in vitro and may be used short-term to prevent spontaneous differentiation.

Biological activity was assessed by the ability of the protein to inhibit BMP-4 induced alkaline phosphatase production in ATDC-5 cells, measured using a fluorometric assay. The EC50, defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which inhibition of alkaline phosphatase production is at 50% of maximum, was 8.7 ng/mL in the cited example. Analysis by SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions, visualized by Coomassie Blue staining, is consistent with a predicted molecular mass of 23.8 kDa.
