Supplied by STEMCELL Technologies, this laboratory reagent is a mouse recombinant macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) expressed in E. coli. The material is a solid and is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) or the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). It is chemically stable under normal conditions.

M-CSF is required for the maturation and activation of monocytes and macrophages and regulates inflammatory responses in conjunction with other stimuli. The protein is a homodimer of 18.2 kDa subunits with a predicted total molecular mass of 36.4 kDa. Biological activity is tested by the ability of the recombinant protein to promote proliferation of NFS-60 cells, with proliferation measured after 44 hours of culture using a fluorometric assay; the EC50 in the cited example is 1.1 - 1.6 ng/mL.
