Description

STEMCELL Technologies Mouse Recombinant IL-33 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine of the IL-1 family, also known as IL-1F11 or Interleukin-33, that binds the ST2 receptor and activates NF-kB and MAPK pathways.

The protein is expressed by epithelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and fibroblasts in various tissues and organs, as well as by resting basophils, mast cells, eosinophils, natural helper cells, group 2 innate lymphoid cells, dendritic cells, and activated macrophages. It contributes to allergic inflammation by stimulating production of the cytokines IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 in Th2 cells, and supports host defense against microbial and viral infections. In the central nervous system, IL-33 is produced by endothelial cells and astrocytes, where it induces proliferation of microglia and mediates production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Supplied as a lyophilized powder from sterile-filtered phosphate-buffered saline containing EDTA and expressed in E. coli, with a predicted molecular mass of 17.5 kDa. Specific activity is ≥ 2 x 10^6 units/mg (EC50 ≤ 0.5 ng/mL), determined by a cell proliferation assay using D10S cells, with an example EC50 of 0.47 ng/mL. Purity is ≥ 95% as measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis, with endotoxin level ≤ 0.2 EU/μg protein. Store at -20°C to -80°C; stable as supplied for 12 months from date of receipt. Reconstitute in sterile water or aqueous buffer containing 0.1% bovine serum albumin (BSA) to at least 0.1 mg/mL by pipetting solution down the sides of the vial; do not vortex. For research use only.
