The cytokine IL-1β promotes extravasation of immunocompetent cells into affected tissues and stimulates Th17 differentiation and B cell proliferation. Biological activity was tested by the ability to promote proliferation of D10S cells, with cell proliferation measured using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum, and the example EC50 is 0.81 pg/mL. SDS-PAGE analysis with 2 μg of the product under reducing (+) and non-reducing (-) conditions, visualized by Coomassie Blue staining, shows a predicted molecular mass of 17.5 kDa.

The material is supplied as a solid powder that is stable under normal conditions and is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS).
