This Mouse Recombinant IGF-I from STEMCELL Technologies is supplied as a research-grade cytokine, chemokine, or growth factor for immunology and stem cell research applications. According to the manufacturer, IGF-I is required for embryonic development and is produced mainly in the liver in response to hepatocyte growth hormone.

The biological activity of the recombinant protein was tested by its ability to promote the proliferation of FDC-P1 cells, with cell proliferation measured using a fluorometric assay. The EC50, defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum, was less than 10 ng/mL in the example shown. SDS-PAGE analysis of 2 μg of the protein under reducing (+) and non-reducing (-) conditions, visualized by Coomassie Blue staining, indicated a predicted molecular mass of 7.8 kDa.
