Description

Produced in E. coli, this recombinant mouse granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) from STEMCELL Technologies promotes the proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic progenitor cells and the generation of neutrophils, eosinophils, and macrophages. In synergy with other cytokines such as stem cell factor, IL-3, erythropoietin, and thrombopoietin, it also stimulates erythroid and megakaryocyte progenitor cells. The cytokine is produced by multiple cell types, including stromal cells, Paneth cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts, chondrocytes, and Th1 and Th17 cells, and stimulates the development of dendritic cells that ingest, process, and present antigens to the immune system.

Highly species-specific, the protein has a predicted molecular mass of 14.3 kDa (UniProt accession P01587). The specific activity is ≥ 2 x 10^7 units/mg (EC50 ≤ 50 pg/mL) as determined by a cell proliferation assay using FDC-P1 cells. The protein is ≥ 95% pure, with an endotoxin level of ≤ 1 EU/μg protein measured by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. Alternative names include Colony-stimulating factor 2, CSF-2, MGI-1GM, and Pluripoietic-alpha. The product is lyophilized from a sterile-filtered aqueous solution containing acetic acid.

The lyophilized product is stable for 12 months from the date of receipt when stored at -20°C to -80°C. Centrifuge the vial before opening and reconstitute in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL by pipetting down the sides of the vial; do not vortex. As an optional step after reconstitution, dilute with concentrated bovine serum albumin (BSA) to a final BSA concentration of 0.1% if the product will not be used immediately. As a general guide, stock solutions should not be stored at 2 - 8°C for more than 1 month or at -20°C to -80°C for more than 3 months, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided. Intended for research use only.
