STEMCELL Technologies supplies a recombinant form of the mouse Flt3/Flk-2 Ligand, a cytokine that regulates proliferation, differentiation, and survival of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. The preparation is provided as a powder intended for laboratory research use only and is not for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic applications.

Biological activity is determined by the ability of the ligand to promote the proliferation of AML5 cells, with cell proliferation measured after 65 hours of culture using a fluorometric assay. Under these conditions, the EC50 is defined as the effective concentration at which proliferation is at 50% of maximum and is reported as 1.3 - 2.0 ng/mL. SDS-PAGE analysis under reducing and non-reducing conditions, visualized by Coomassie Blue staining, indicates a predicted molecular mass of 18.6 kDa. The product is intended to support research workflows involving serum-free expansion of human hematopoietic cells, including human CD34+ hematopoietic cells, alongside related cytokines such as Interleukin 3.

According to the manufacturer's safety data sheet, the material is not classified as hazardous under the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard or the Globally Harmonized System (GHS). It should be kept in tightly closed containers in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place and handled in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.
