Description

STEMCELL Technologies supplies this mouse monoclonal reagent as an isotype-matched negative control for estimating the degree of non-specific binding by an antigen-specific antibody. The antibody, designated clone MOPC-173, is produced by a mineral oil-induced plasmacytoma cell line and has unknown binding specificity, having been screened on a variety of activated, resting, live, and fixed tissues from several species, including mouse, rat, human, and non-human primates.

As an IgG2a, kappa isotype control, it is designed to match the subclass of heavy and light chains of a primary antibody of the same isotype. Where the primary antibody is conjugated, an isotype control conjugated to the same molecule should be chosen. Use of an appropriate isotype control helps confirm the specificity of the antigen-specific antibody and indicates non-specific binding that may result from binding to Fc receptors or other cell components.

This biotin-conjugated format has been verified for assessing non-specific binding in flow cytometry and immunofluorescence microscopy applications, including surface and intracellular staining, and is reported in the literature for additional uses including immunocytochemistry, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, and blocking/functional assays. The antibody was purified by affinity chromatography and conjugated with biotin under optimal conditions; the solution is free of unconjugated biotin. It is formulated at 0.5 mg/mL in a phosphate-buffered solution, pH 7.2, containing 0.09% sodium azide. The product is stable at 2–8°C when stored undiluted and should not be frozen.
