Description

A vitamin B12 analog supplied by STEMCELL Technologies, this small molecule acts as a coenzyme involved in homocysteine metabolism [S1, C0]. Studies indicate it elevates the activities of ERK1/2 and AKT and improves nerve regeneration in rats, suggesting therapeutic potential for treating nervous disorders [S1].

Alternative names include Algobaz, Co-Methylcobalamin, MeCbl, Mecobalamin, and Methyl Vitamin B12 [S1]. The CAS Number is 13422-55-4, the chemical formula is C63H91CoN13O14P, the molecular weight is 1344.4 g/mol, and the reported purity is ≥ 98% [S1].

Physically, the material is a crystalline solid [S1]. It is stable at -20 °C as supplied, should be protected from prolonged exposure to light, and stored with a desiccant for long-term storage; it remains stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt [S1]. Solubility is ≤ 2.2 mM in PBS (pH 7.2), ≤ 3.7 mM in DMSO, and ≤ 2.2 mM in absolute ethanol [S1]. To prepare a 1 mM stock solution in PBS, 10 mg can be resuspended in 7.4 mL of PBS, with stock solutions prepared fresh before use [S1]. When used as a cell culture supplement, final DMSO concentration should be kept below 0.1% due to potential cell toxicity [S1]. Published applications include the promotion of Schwann cell differentiation in vitro and neuronal survival in rats [S1]. The product is for research use only [S1].
