From QIAGEN, this real-time PCR kit is designed for detection of ovine (sheep) DNA in food, animal feed, pharmaceutical products, and forensic samples. It is suited to speciation testing and authenticity verification in laboratory environments. The kit includes validated primers/probes and PCR mix and is compatible with common qPCR instruments, including the Rotor-Gene Q and other thermal block cyclers.

The system uses real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify a specific region of the target species genome, with detection via target-specific fluorescent probes. Each assay can detect as few as 10 target copies of target in a reaction, and no cross-reactivity was observed with species using 2500 copies of tested DNA. The streamlined protocol returns results in 73 minutes on QIAGEN's Rotor-Gene Q.
