A real-time PCR test from QIAGEN, the mericon Pig Kit belongs to the mericon Ingredient Authentication Assays, a suite designed for the authentication of food and animal feed ingredients. The qualitative assay detects pig DNA, returning positive results for both domesticated pig and wild boar, while showing no cross-reactivity with the other animal and plant species listed in its specificity study.

Intended for food samples and labelled RUO, the assay is validated for use on the Rotor-Gene Q as well as other thermal cyclers. Sample preparation is performed using the DNeasy mericon Food Kit or DNeasy Plant Kits. An internal control monitors potential PCR inhibition, aiding straightforward interpretation of results. The streamlined protocol delivers results in 82 minutes on the Rotor-Gene Q.
