MagAttract Microbial DNA Kit (384)

Designed for fast, automated isolation of high-quality microbial DNA, this QIAGEN kit supports metagenomics, microbiome and sequencing studies. It enables hands-free isolation of DNA from microbial cultures, food cultures and swabs, and has been tested successfully with bacterial spores, fungal types and food samples including meats, cheeses, dairy products, chocolate, fruits, vegetables and juices.

The kit uses SwiftMag Technology with 0.1 mm glass beads and a proprietary magnetic bead-based capture system, with DNA eluted in a low-salt buffer (10 mM Tris, pH 8). It incorporates Inhibitor Removal Technology to remove PCR-inhibiting compounds commonly associated with food samples, including polysaccharides and lipids, yielding DNA suitable for downstream applications such as PCR, qPCR, Sanger sequencing and next-generation sequencing. Up to 1.8 ml of liquid culture can be processed, with the protocol isolating DNA from up to 450 μl of lysate. Bead-based homogenization requires a specialized plate shaker such as the TissueLyser II.

Optimized for use with the Thermo Scientific KingFisher Flex, KingFisher Duo and Eppendorf epMotion 5075 TMX platforms, the kit is supplied with protocols for these systems; other open-platform robots such as those from Tecan, Hamilton and Beckman may also be used. Kit reagents and components should be stored at room temperature (15-30°C), with RNase A Solution stored at 4°C. The product was previously sold by MO BIO as the PowerMag Microbial DNA Kit.
