Investigator Lyse&Spin Basket Kit (250)

A lysis and filtration consumable from QIAGEN designed for the preparation of forensic samples carried on solid substrates in molecular biology workflows. The baskets are used to process swabs, pieces of fabric or leather, paper, cigarette butts, chewing gum, small tapes, and similar sample types, and the kit meets ISO 18385 requirements. By combining sample lysis and separation of the solid substrate in a single procedure, the design removes the need to transfer the sample to obtain a cleared lysate.

In use, the forensic material is placed inside the basket together with lysis buffer and proteinase K, and the assembly is incubated at 56 °C with shaking. Upon centrifugation on a standard benchtop centrifuge, perforations in the base of the basket open, allowing the lysate that contains the nucleic acids to pass through into the provided 2 ml collection tube while the solid substrate particles are retained. The kit is intended as a pre-treatment step in combination with manual and automated extraction kits, for example the EZ1 DNA Investigator, QIAsymphony DNA Investigator, or QIAamp DNA Investigator Kits. All parts of the kit are treated with ethylene oxide after production, and the kit can be stored at room temperature (15–25 °C). It is intended for molecular biology applications and is not intended for the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of a disease.
