Human/Mouse Recombinant NT-3 (10 µg)

A recombinant neurotrophic factor from STEMCELL Technologies, this Human/Mouse NT-3 is a member of the nerve growth factor (NGF) family alongside NGF, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and neurotrophin-4/5. The protein is produced in E. coli and supplied lyophilized from a sterile-filtered aqueous solution containing 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid. It is predicted to form a non-covalently linked homodimer, with each dimer having a molecular mass of 13.8 kDa for a predicted total molecular weight of 27.5 kDa.

NT-3 signals through the receptor tyrosine kinase TrkC and is known to promote survival, development, and differentiation of neurons, as well as modulate transmitter release at synapses in the peripheral and central nervous systems. It has an important role in the development of enteric neurons crucial for gut peristalsis, has shown potential in dorsal column axonal regeneration in rats, and protects neurons against amyloid-β toxicity. Documented applications include generating β-tubulin III+ peripheral neurons from neural crest stem cells and oligodendrocyte precursor cells from human ES and iPS cells.

Purity is ≥ 95%. For lot #1000050644 or higher, specific activity is ≥ 5.0 x 10^4 units/mg with an EC50 of ≤ 20 ng/mL as determined by a cell proliferation assay using a neuroblastoma cell line stably expressing TrkB (BR6); a representative EC50 in this assay is 9.3 ng/mL. Endotoxin level is ≤ 1 EU/μg protein by kinetic Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) analysis. The lyophilized product is stable for 12 months from the date of receipt when stored at -20°C to -80°C and should be reconstituted in sterile water to at least 0.1 mg/mL without vortexing.
